Report: 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
Earthquake's Epicenter Located 10km from Resort Town
No Immediate Reports of Damage or Injuries
A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near the popular resort town of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico, on Tuesday, March 7.
According to the National Seismological Service (SSN), the epicenter of the quake was located approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southwest of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
The quake was felt in the surrounding areas, including Zihuatanejo, Troncones, and Playa Larga, but there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Authorities are currently assessing the situation and urging residents to remain calm and follow safety precautions.
Mexico is located in a seismically active zone and experiences frequent earthquakes.
In September 2021, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Acapulco, Guerrero, causing widespread damage and killing at least one person.
The SSN advises residents to be prepared for aftershocks and to have an emergency plan in place.
